REGISTRATION OF A CHILD AS A SLOVENIAN CITIZEN
Once you have collected all the necessary documents as per below, please give us a call or email us at consular.london(at)gov.si to arrange an appointment to submit the application for a registration of a child as Slovenian citizen. The application and supporting documents will then be sent to the relevant administration unit in Slovenia who will complete the registration.
List of required documents:
1. Application form:
Please complete the correct form, depending on citizenship of the child's parents.
If both parents are Slovenian citizens, please complete the form "Vpis otroka v MR MLD" (click HERE).
If only one of the parents is a Slovenian citizen, please complete the form "Vpis otroka v MR MLD Priglasitev" (click HERE).
2. Child's certified original birth certificate
The original birth certificate, which must include details of the parents, needs to be certified by an international stamp Apostille. In the UK, you can obtain this certification through the Legalisation Office.
If the child was born outside of UK, you will need to complete the certification ("authentication, legalisation") in the country of birth or at an Embassy of the country in which the child was born. Slovenian Embassy in London will, after obtaining the signatures of the official who certified the birth certificate at the relevant Embassy, re-certify the signature.
3. Translation of the birth certificate:
Once you obtain the certified birth certificate, it needs to be translated to Slovenian. You can complete the translation yourself or through a translator. The translation will then be certified at the Slovenian Embassy in London.
4. Registration of permanent residence:
Please complete the registration of permanent residence form for your child (click HERE). Please note that if the child's parents live at different addresses, BOTH parents need to complete and sign this form.
5. Registration of the right to vote:
Please complete the registration of the right to vote form for your child (click HERE).
The purpose of this form is to register the child into the electoral register. As such, the child will obtain the right to vote upon turning 18 years old.
6. IF YOU ARE NOT MARRIED TO THE OTHER PARENT OF THE CHILD:
If you are not married or if the child was born before you got married, BOTH parents must attend the Embassy when submitting the application where they will need to sign a Record of Acknowledgment of Paternity. We will provide you with the form at the Embassy.
If you are married but the marriage has not yet been registered in Slovenia, you are required to complete the registration before the child's citizenship can be granted. Please click HERE for further information. You can complete both processes at the same time at the Embassy.
If the parents are married and the marriage is registered in Slovenia, only one parent (Slovenian citizen) must attend the Embassy when submitting the application.
7. Statement on the use of the name:
Please also enclose a statement, confirming the name the child will use in legal transactions (click HERE).
Once you have collected all the required documents, please give us a call or email us at consular.london(at)gov.si to arrange an appointment to submit the application for a registration of your child as Slovenian citizen.
We will forward the application and the supporting documents to the relevant administration unit in Slovenia. Once we receive a copy of the birth certificate from the administration unit in Slovenia, you will be able to apply for a passport and/or ID card for the child.
Provided that you have submitted all the required documents, the whole process takes approximately 4 weeks (depending on the speed of the post, the administration unit, any public holidays in the UK or Slovenia, etc.).
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
